Waterdown Library And Civic Centre

Product details

Waterdown Library and Civic Centre is a multi-use facility that brings together a diverse range of services and demographics under one roof. It houses not only a library but also a heritage society archive, police and municipal service outlets, and a seniors' recreation center. Positioned on an escarpment where the land slopes toward the lake, the building’s design enhances the connection to its natural surroundings. The interior topography of the structure emphasizes this relationship, creating an engaging and reflective space.

The library itself features quiet study rooms with load-bearing, laminated glass walls that seem to defy gravity, supporting heavy ceilings while maintaining acoustic privacy and clear views. A unique highlight of the space is a row of glass-enclosed, ethanol fireplaces, which are paired with Pierre Paulin's Orange Slice and Tulip chairs in warm ember hues. This thoughtful design has made the library a beloved community hub where patrons can enjoy a beautiful and welcoming workspace.
