St Peter Church
St Peter Church
In 1874, Battersea's riverfront bustled with industry—warehouses, docks, mills, and factories lined the area. Streets of terraced houses sprouted between the river and Clapham Junction, housing local workers and their families. To accommodate the growing population, a church was constructed. Its foundation stone was laid on St Peter's day in 1875, and exactly a year later, the site was consecrated. For nearly a century, the church served as a place of worship until tragedy struck on Bonfire Night in 1970 when fire destroyed it, rendering the building irreparable and leaving the site barren for a while.
Today, the church consists of an old school building connected to a versatile church hall and community center. Inside the new building, you'll find Theo wooden chairs by New Design Group. These chairs with the elegant and functional design fits perfectly into the church's interiors. With upholstered seats on sturdy wood frames, they ensure added comfort for worshipers.
