Qantas Club Lounge
Qantas Club Lounge
Created by Qantas lounge stalwarts Woods Bagot, the form takes loose inspiration from the linearity of Melbourne’s grid-like streets and iconic laneways, with a range of colours including subtle touches of turquoise and aquamarine.
Qantas know how to do a lounge. Mixing luxury with creature comforts, each of the airline’s lounges acts as the perfect pre-flight space, allowing frequent fliers to stretch their legs and stock up on some Neil Perry food before boarding. And with Melbourne’s renovated Business lounge, Qantas has done it again.
The Business lounge, which has been conceptualised by interior designers at Woods Bagot (who have also designed the Qantas Heathrow lounge), features natural timber and turquoise colourings — a palette inspired by the Great Ocean Road, one of the Victorian state’s most fantastic attractions. In contrast, the dark tones and sophisticated finishes in the Business Lounge symbolise Melbourne’s dining culture and supper clubs. Brass, black and marble finishings dot the space, which is packed with greenery by way of indoor plants, resulting in an overall relaxed feel.
Both the Qantas Club and the Business lounge have been completely overhauled, bringing the designs in line with the brand’s lounge aesthetic worldwide. The Melbourne lounges have been completely redesigned to use space more effectively, offering seats for nearly 900 customers. More than 130 additional customers can be accommodated – 40 per cent more in the Business Lounge and 10 per cent more in the Qantas Club.
Following a 12-month redevelopment, Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said the multi-million dollar investment was a vote of confidence in Melbourne’s future.
