Golden West College – Math and Science Building
Golden West College – Math And Science Building
HMC Architects designed the innovative new Math and Science Building for Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California. This building is fueled by discovery and powered by exploratory learning, creating engaging and flexible spaces designed to the latest pedagogical concepts essential for teaching in the competitive 21st century. Located along the western edge of the campus, the three-story structure presents a fresh, modern face to the community. Serving as the home for the college’s mathematics and science programs, it provides a much-needed expansion of laboratory, classroom, office, and support spaces designed to meet the specialized needs of these disciplines.
In this building, STEM activities that were once taught in isolation now overlap seamlessly, blurring the lines between them. This interconnectedness extends beyond the layout, influencing the design of every space so that students passing through can observe their peers experimenting, studying, or engaging in discussions. To enhance the aesthetic and functionality of the educational environment, Tipo chairs and stools are featured prominently. Designed by Taku Kumazawa for Aichi, these high-density stacking mesh chairs are made from 100% recycled materials and are fully recyclable, demonstrating the campus commitment to environmental consciousness.
