David Jones Food Hall Bondi
David Jones Food Hall Bondi
Luxury department store David Jones has embraced the retail movement towards hospitality with an exquisite foodhall at its Bondi Junction, Sydney location. The 2,500sqm space emphasises in-store dining and foodie celebration. A collaboration with chef Neil Perry and a multi-year, $100m investment set expectations high. And it doesn’t disappoint.
Featuring nine ‘food worlds’, each of which contains its own dining area, alongside three restaurants, the foodhall signals a transformation of the top end of Australian dining.
Each world incorporates house-made delicacies and dishes, pre-prepared meals and a selection of local and internationally sourced products. Angled mirrors set above each station bring the process to life, maximising theatre.
With an emphasis on human activity, dining and socialising are built into every part of the foodhall, including the grocery section. Here, world-class eating experiences come together with a retail offer focused on quality, provenance and taste. It’s an upmarket, elegant overhaul of the brand’s famous culinary offerings – and the blueprint for subsequent foodhalls at David Jones’ Melbourne and Sydney CBD stores.
