161 Collins Street Refurbishment
161 Collins Street Refurbishment
Bates Smart is leading a comprehensive refurbishment of the historic T&G building at the distinguished 'Paris end' of Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD. Originally completed in 1928, this iconic building, recognized as one of Melbourne’s most beautiful, occupies a prominent corner location. The project includes a significant upgrade, transforming the space into a world-class workplace. The redesign features state-of-the-art tenant facilities, brand new end-of-trip amenities, and club-style concierge services, complemented by expansive 4,000sqm campus-style floor plates surrounding the atrium.
At the heart of the building, the new signature atrium has been reimagined as a casual, tenant-focused working lounge. This space offers a variety of areas for gathering and relaxation, with an abundance of daylight, natural materials, and greenery creating a warm, inviting oasis. The centerpiece of this lounge is the Oslo Lounge Chairs from Bernhardt Design, supplied by KE-ZU. Designed by the young Norwegian studio Angell Wyller and Aarseth, these chairs, crafted in solid walnut with a low-slung seat, embody simplicity and elegance. The design bridges generations, aesthetics, and continents through its thoughtful and light construction. The skeletal frame supports a sling seat and back, draping gently over the lounge like garments on a figure.
Overall, the redevelopment has resulted in a world-class, A-grade office environment that enhances the prestigious Collins Street address, reestablishing the building as a premier destination.
