Sancal
At age twenty, Santiago Castaño established his venture, specialising in manufacturing classic Marie Antoinette-style chairs. As demand soared, Santiago enlisted the support of his brother, Pepe, and his wife, Concha. Together, they nurtured Sancal into the familial enterprise it is today.
Sancal emerged under the warmth of the Spanish sun around fifty years ago, and it has remained rooted there ever since. Its identity reflects Spain's vibrant and humble spirit, characterised by passion, openness, and joy, reverberating through every design.
Sancal's approach to design is characterised by hedonism and extroversion, where products serve practical functions and mediums for communication.
Into a Happier World
Sancal prioritises innovation, striving to develop new concepts and enhance existing products while focusing on simplicity to simplify lives, closeness to foster familiarity, and creativity to evoke excitement. Their motto, "Smile, break the mould and be happy!" underscores their commitment to positivity and breaking away from conventions to create a happier world. Central to Sancal design philosophy is the use of colour as a means of expression, employing a wide range of hues and finishes to evoke various emotions.
Sancal collaborates with celebrated designers such as Karim Rashid, Rafa Gracia, Skrivo, Estudihac, Luis Elsava, Quim Larrea, MUT Design, and Ricard Ferrer. Love and humour are integral to their design process, with each product being a labour of love. The designers at Sancal view design as a collaborative endeavour, valuing the input of industrial, graphic, and interior designers worldwide, enriching each product with diverse perspectives.
Eco-Friendly Production
Sancal begins by sourcing wood from renewable forests and meticulously segregates residuals for recycling in its manufacturing process. Sancal's factories use solar panels that fulfil all their electricity requirements. Holding both the ISO9001 and ISO14001 certifications for quality and environmental standards, Sancal ensures adherence to rigorous standards.
Sancal furniture is distributed across more than 90 countries, including Australia, where it can be found at KE-ZU.
